Our Team

Subin Park

My name is Subin Park, and I am 18 years old. I am currently a senior at St. Paul’s School. Before beginning Latin, I studied Chinese for eight years. Although Chinese had been an important part of my education, I wanted to challenge myself by exploring a new language and culture. Choosing Latin introduced me to the classical world, which has since become one of the most meaningful parts of my academic life.

I am now on the honors track of the St. Paul’s School Classics curriculum and am enrolled in Latin 3 Honors and Greek 2. I am also now a member of the school’s esteemed Classical Honors Program. Beyond language study, I take Mythology and Metamorphoses, a humanities course that has deepened my love for the mythological world and how ancient stories continue to be reinterpreted. In the near future, I also hope to take History of Medicine and broaden my understanding of the ancient world’s continuing influence. This is my second year participating in and helping to organize the International Latin Convention. It is an honor to contribute to a community that brings together students through a shared interest in classical languages, history, and mythology.

I look forward to welcoming you all and helping make this year’s convention a meaningful experience.

Colin Ryu

My name is Colin Ryu, and I am a junior at The Lawrenceville School in New Jersey. My passion for Latin has grown through my experiences studying the language and learning about the history and culture of the ancient world. I especially enjoy how Latin allows me to connect with the ideas, stories, and people of the past while challenging me to think carefully about language and its meaning.

Being part of the Latin community has given me the opportunity to meet others who share the same appreciation for Classics. I am especially proud and excited to be part of this year’s International Latin Convention. It is a wonderful opportunity to come together with students from different schools who share a passion for Latin and the ancient world. I look forward to meeting everyone, learning from one another, and celebrating our shared interest in Latin!

Presidential Committee

Brooke Jang

I am Brooke Jahng, a senior at Pomfret School. My passion for the Classics has shaped both my academic pursuits and my commitment to building meaningful communities around the study of the ancient world. I am currently enrolled in ADV: Latin II, the highest-level Latin course offered at Pomfret, and serve as the student head of the Classics Department, where I work to strengthen and expand engagement with Classics within my school community.

My academic interests extend beyond the traditional boundaries of the discipline, particularly into military history and the enduring connections between the ancient and modern worlds. Through independent studies in Greek 101 and ancient military history, I have explored the ways classical civilizations continue to inform modern ideas of leadership, conflict, and service. I am deeply interested in military history and hope to serve in the military in the future, continuing to connect my passion for Classics with a broader commitment to service.

I am excited to expand opportunities for international collaboration, encourage meaningful academic exchange, and help create a more connected and globally engaged future for Classics.

EU Park

My name is Eu Park, a senior at Northfield Mount Hermon School and co-founder of our school’s Classics Club. My journey with Latin began in 2024 when I enrolled in Latin I, the most elementary course offered at our school. I was instantly captivated by the language, especially its intricate grammar and syntax, which showed to me an entirely new way for transmitting knowledge and meaning. I self-studied Latin II over the summer to accelerate my coursework, eventually completing every Latin course offered at our school. I am currently enrolled in Latin V: Empire, one of our two highest level classical courses, alongside Ancient Mediterranean History, which deepens my understanding of the broader ancient world.

This is my second year helping organize the International Convention. I am deeply honored to help facilitate an event that unites passionate students from across the globe around a shared dedication to the classics. I look forward to connecting, collaborating, and learning alongside all of you this year.

Vale!

Vice President Committee

Jay Yoo

Hi, my name is Jay Yoo and I’m a junior at Seoul International School. I’ve been studying Latin on my own and with a tutor for around 2 years now, covering basic grammatical structures as well as famous classical texts from authors like Catullus, Caesar, and Marcus Aurelius in Latin. As per my qualifications, I received a perfect score in the NLE Intermediate exam and a gold medal for the Latin Advanced Prose exam.

Taeyoung Kim

My name is Tae Young Kim, a junior at Chadwick International School. The classical world has served as the foundational pillar of my academic journey. Over years of study and exploration during travels across Italy and Vatican City, my immersion in Latin transitioned from a study of language into a lifelong commitment to classical art, religion, and architecture.

I approach Classical antiquity through the intersecting lenses of Roman philosophy, art history, and sacred architecture. My past and ongoing research specifically focuses on how the philosophy embedded in Pliny’s letters and Greco-Roman classical ideals influenced revolutionary Mannerist artists such as El Greco, as well as the spatial evolution of religious structures such as the Pantheon and Old St. Peter’s Basilica.

It is a true privilege to help open this year's NJCL International Latin Convention. I look forward to welcoming you all, connecting with fellow classicists, and celebrating the living legacy of classical heritage together.

Salvete omnes et gaudeamus!

Treasurer

Henry Yoon

My name is Henry (Kyungsup) Yoon, and I am a 10th grade student at Chadwick International in Songdo, South Korea, serving on the Organizing Committee of this year's convention. I came to Latin from economics. What holds my interest in the ancient world is its bookkeeping — the mines, the leases, and the labor nobody wrote down. I am still early in the language. On the 2026 National Latin Exam I earned a Certificate of Honorable Merit.

Publicity Chair

Seohee Park

My name is Rachael Park, and I am a sophomore at Korea International School Pangyo Campus, serving on the organizing committee of this year’s convention. I have learnt a number of languages in my life, including Korean, Spanish, Chinese, and French. After learning French consistently for 5 years, I became interested in historical literature from the 17th century, then even earlier, leading to my interest in Latin. I have been learning latin for less than a year now and am still early in the language.
